Bhiwandi Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises To 8

Bhiwandi: The death toll in the Bhiwandi building collapse rose to eight after two more bodies were pulled out from the debris of the building this morning. The rescue operation is still on after more than 42 hours after the incident. The deceased include six men, one woman, and a child.

Reportedly, the incident occurred in the Vardhaman compound in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Saturday, April 29. A ground plus 3-storey structure collapsed at around 1.45 pm trapping workers who were working on the lower floor and families living on the second floor.

At least 15 to 20 people are feared to be trapped under the debris of the building and nine have been rescued, civic officials said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday night visited the incident site. He also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs for the families of the deceased.
