Bhubaneswar Airport to have Instrument Landing System Against Fog & Rain

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) will have  Instrument Landing System (ILS) soon. The decision was taken following the regular delays in landing and taking off of several flights due to dense fog.

The ILS will provide horizontal and vertical guidance to aircraft before and during landing in case of low visibility due to dense fog or heavy rain.

Ahead of the FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, the airport administration has initiated the process to install the ILS at the runway of the airport.

The instrument landing system will be installed at the 800-metre runway of Bhubaneswar airport.

After the installation of ILS, pilots can see the runway clearly from around 200 feet height despite the dense fog, heavy rain, or even in darkness.
