Bhubaneswar’s Kapileshwar Temple Becomes ASI Protected Monument

Bhubaneswar: The famous Kapileshwar temple in Bhubaneswar was included in the list of protected monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The Gazette notification for the purpose came on May 5. This decision will ensure better upkeep and preservation of the historic monument.

Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sadangi lauded this move and requested the Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy to declare Khandagiri and Udaygiri caves in Bhubaneswar as ‘world heritage sites’.

Kapileshwar temple was constructed in 5th century AD. It was renovated by Gajapati Kapilendra Dev in the 14th Century. This temple showcases exquisite carvings and gorgeous architecture. It is a fine example of the Kalinga style temple architecture. It is a well-known tourist destination that attracts visitors and devotees.

Lord Shiva is worshipped at this temple under the name Kapilesvara. This temple is located at a distance of 1 km from the 11th-century-old Lingraj Temple of Bhubaneswar.
