CBI Arrests Postal Asst Engineer in Bribery Case in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Postal Assistant Engineer in the Sambalpur district for allegedly accepting bribes from a contractor.

The accused was identified as Subasish Pal. He was allegedly taking a bribe from the complainant at the office of the postal superintendent when he was caught red-handed by the officials of the central agency.

According to reports, Subasish was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.22 lakh for himself as well as another amount of Rs 18,500/- as a bribe for an Executive Engineer (Civil), Postal Division, Bhubaneswar from an individual.

Reportedly, the bribe was demanded to release the balance payment of Rs 3.77 lakh towards the AMC Contract given to the Complainant.

Another man named Debendra Kumar Puhan, who received the bribe amount of Rs 18,500 from the Assistant Engineer on behalf of the Executive Engineer, was also arrested.

“CBI laid a trap and caught the accused for demanding and accepting the bribe. Searches were conducted on the premises of the accused at Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, and Patna which led to the recovery of certain incriminating documents,” the CBI stated.
