China Stops Listing of Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief Masood Azhar’s Brother as Global Terrorist

United Nations Security Council (UNSC) failed to list Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Abdul Rauf Azhar as a terrorist as China rejected the proposal. Abdul Rauf Azhar is the younger brother of Jaish-e-Mohammad founder Masood Azhar.

Following China’s rejection, a fresh proposal will now have to be placed in UNSC to indict Abdul Rauf Azhar.

In January, the UNSC declared Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) leader Abdul Rehman Makki a global terrorist. But China continued with the hold on four other joint Indo-US proposals, including that of Abdul Rauf Azhar. The others stopped from being declared global terrorists by the UNSC were LeT head Hafiz Saeed’s son Hafiz Talha Saeed and two other LeT commanders Shahid Mahmood and Sajid Mir.
