Clash Between Police and Protesting Lawyers in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Lawyers’ agitating for a permanent High Court bench in Sambalpur clashed with police on Wednesday. The clash occurred at Kacheri Square in Sambalpur.

Lawyers observed a bandh and boycotted the court today. The police reportedly uprooted tents put up by the agitating lawyers which led to a confrontation between policemen and the protestors.

According to sources, when judges tried to enter the court premises, agitating lawyers tried to stop them from entering the court.

After receiving the information about the incident, Sambalpur Superintendent of Police (SP) rushed to the spot. He held discussions with the agitating lawyers.

Notably, the Supreme Court has recently directed the Bar Council of India to cancel the licenses of all agitating lawyers who will continue their strike. The court has also asked the district administrations to provide protection to judicial officials and others to continue with their court work.

Licenses of the lawyers will stand canceled until they resume duties, the apex court had said.
