Cocktail of 4 Variants Create Havoc in China; Indians are Comparatively Immune

Although we should be careful and take necessary precautions yet we Indians are more immune than the Chinese, who are facing a major COVID outbreak now. Speaking to NDTV, the chief of the Central government’s COVID panel NK Arora said there is no need to panic over the fresh outbreak in China.

As per the NDTV report, the recent COVID outbreak in China is due to a cocktail of various strains of coronavirus strains.

The BF.7 strain accounts for only 15 per cent of the cases in China. The majority around 50 per cent is of the BN and BQ variety. Another 10 to 15 per cent of cases are of SVV variants.

Indians are in a better situation because of “hybrid immunity”, a combination of immunity acquired through vaccines and through rampant infection. This “hybrid immunity” of Indians has come from the last three waves of COVID that occurred in India.

In contrast, the Chinese because of extra precautions in the past have not been exposed to the virus before. Added it is suspected that Chinese vaccines were comparatively less effective.

In India 97 per cent of citizens have got two doses of vaccines and several have got infected by the coronavirus more than once. Even the children are safe because at least 96 per cent of children below the age of 12 years have been exposed to Covid, said Arora.
