COVID Claims More than 12K Lives in a Week in China

COVID continues to claim a large number of lives in China. Chinese health authorities accepted that more than 12,000 people hospitalized after coronavirus infection died in a week in the country, reported NHK World-Japan.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention has declared that 12,658 COVID patients died in medical institutions between January 13 and 19. Out of them, 681 died of respiratory failure, while 11,977 died of other complications.

Recently Chinese government is updating official death counts. Meanwhile, Wu Zunyou, the chief epidemiologist of China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention has claimed that about 80 per cent of China’s population has been infected by coronavirus, reported CNN.

Earlier this month, China’s National Health Commission declared that 59,938 Covid-related deaths had occurred in the country from Dec. 8 to Jan. 12. Out of them, 56.5 percent were in their 80s.
