Death Sentence for Gujarat man Who Stabbed Minor Girl 34 Times

Ahmedabad: A court in Gujarat’s Rajkot gave death sentence to a convict, who had murdered a minor girl by stabbing her 34 times; when she refused to have a relationship with him. The court termed this 2021 murder as the “rarest of the rare case”.

The convict, Jayesh Sarvaiya (26), had also attacked and injured the victim’s brother. He was then booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Jayesh and the minor girl were inhabitants of Jetalsar village in Jetpur taluka of Gujarat. On March 16, 2021, the accused went to the victim’s house with a proposal for having romantic relations with him. But the girl refused his advances. Enraged over the denial, Jayesh stabbed her 34 times. The victim died on the spot.

“The court awarded the death sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused under section 302 of the IPC… It was a kind of murder that shook the entire community and hence, was taken seriously,” special public prosecutor Janak Patel said.

The convict has been given a month’s time for an appeal.
