Deities of Srimandir to be Attired with Gold (Sunabesha) on Dola Purnima

Puri: The deities of Shri Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri will be attired with gold on the occasion of Dola Purnima today.

The representative idols of the Trinity, Gobinda, Bhudevi and Sridevi, will be carried on specially decorated palanquins (Dola Vimanas) to Dola Mandap. After reaching the mandap, the deities and servitors will play Holi by smearing colours on each other as per the tradition.

The golden attire ceremony (Sunabesha) of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Sudarshan will be held on Ratna Singhasana.

“This evening, on the eve of Dola Purnima, a special Mendhapedi ritual will be performed in Srimandir. After Madhyana Dhupa is performed, divine ordain (Agyanmala) will be obtained so that the representative deities will be taken to the Dolabedi,” said researcher Surya Narayan Ratha Sharma.

The administrators of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration informed that all steps are being taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the rituals and darshan of the deities in proper coordination with the servitors.

It is pertinent to note that the deities of Puri Srimandir adorn golden attire on five occasions a year. These are Ratha Yatra, Dusshera, Panchuka, Pusha Purnima and Dola Purnima.
