EAM Jaishankar in Ahmedabad to File Nomination for RS Polls from Gujarat

Ahmedabad: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reached Ahmedabad to file his nomination papers for a Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat, said BJP sources.

Jaishankar’s present Rajya Sabha tenure ends on August 18, along with two other Rajya Sabha members from Gujarat.

Jaishankar reached Ahmedabad on Sunday. He was received at the airport by Gujarat minister Raghavji Patel, Ahmedabad Mayor Kirit Parmar and other BJP functionaries.

BJP has not yet officially announced the names of candidates for the three Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat for which the elections are scheduled to be held on July 24. But BJP sources confirm Jaishankar’s nomination.

The Gujarat Congress has already declared that it would not field candidates for polls to the three Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat. Congress lacks sufficient number of MLAs in the Gujarat assembly to get anyone elected to Rajya Sabha.
