Farmers’ Outfit Protests in Bhubaneswar; Several Protestors Detained

Bhubaneswar: Police had a hard time checking agitating farmers trying to reach Naveen Niwas, the official residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in Bhubaneswar on Monday. Demonstrators of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan demonstrated on the roads of Odisha’s capital on Monday morning over their various demands.

Hundreds of agitating farmers tried to break the police cordon in their attempt to gherao the CM’s residence. They alleged irregularities in paddy procurement. According to sources, to show up their protest the members of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan had planned to dump quintals of paddy at Naveen Niwas.

Some of these agitators managed to dodge the security personnel and ran toward the CM’s residence to demonstrate. But they were stopped in time by the police.

To bring the situation under control, police had to take several demonstrators into custody. The protesting farmers condemned the state government’s alleged anti-farmer policies.
