Nuapada: The enthusiasm of a tribal couple in Nuapada district knows no bound now as they have been invited to New Delhi to serve traditional tribal food to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Republic Day on January 26 this year.

While every year a tribal couple from Odisha is invited to grace the Republic Day parade as guests, luck has favoured Bhubjabal Majhi and his wife Kunjabai Majhi, belonging to Chakotia Bhunjia tribe, of Sunabeda sanctuary to attend the national event as guests this year.

As per their tradition, the couple will be barefoot all along their journey to the national capital. They will wear a traditional tribal dress and go by flight.

“We have heard about Delhi and the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu. But we didn’t know that we would be one day invited to Delhi and meet the country’s biggest personalities like Prime Minister and President. We can’t express our happiness,” said Bhujabal and Kunjabai.

The Chakotia Bhunjia couple would serve tribal food made of sweet potato, millet and other corns to the PM and the President as per an annual Republic Day practice.

The couple will leave for Delhi from Sunabeda on January 21. They would be accompanied by Himanshu Mohapatra, Special Officer of the Chakotia Bhunjia Development Agency.
