Gangster-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Gets 10-Yr Jail Sentence in Kidnapping, Murder Cases

Lucknow: Gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who is also a five-time former MLA, was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in connection with cases of kidnapping and murder by the MP-MLA court in Ghazipur of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Mukhtar Ansari, who was booked under the Gangster Act, was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakhs by the court. Mukhtar Ansari was convicted for his involvement in the 1996 kidnapping case of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Nandkishore Rungta and the 2005 murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.

A murder case was registered against Mukhtar Ansari in January this year in connection with the 2001 ‘Usri Chatti’ gang war incident. He was booked under Sections 302, 147, 148, 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur.

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court convicted and sentenced Mukhtar Ansari on charges of threatening Lucknow district prison jailer SK Awasthi with a pistol in 2003.
