Google Fires 100 Robot Workers Used in its Cafeterias

Apart from firing around 12,000 of its employees, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has also preferred to lay off 100 robots that were used to clean the cafeterias at its headquarters.

According to reports, Alphabet’s ‘Everyday Robots’ project has been closed down by Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Under this project 100 one-armed robots moving on wheels were trained to clean the company’s cafeterias. These robots cleaned tables and separated trash for recycling. They helped in cleaning conference rooms during the COVID pandemic.

Now this robot division is shut off. Meanwhile, to reduce expenditure, Google has even asked employees who return to work to share their work desks with a “partner” to maximise office space.
