Governor-Govt tug of war Reaches New Low in Tamil Nadu Assembly

Chennai: The tussle between the ruling DMK and Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi fell to a new low in the assembly of the state on Monday. The governor did not read out portions of the government-prepared customary address in the Assembly. In retaliation, the Chief Minister came up with a resolution to exclude whatever the governor spoke outside the State drafted speech, from the House records.

When the Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin moved the resolution, the governor later walked out of the assembly. Such an event happened for the first time in the history of the Tamil Nadu assembly.

As per reports, the ‘Dravidian model’ were among the words skipped by the Governor. He also spoke on his own on certain aspects.

BJP leaders came out in support of the TN governor. BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan alleged that the government did not get the Raj Bhavan’s concurrence for the prepared speech to be read by the Governor.

Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI, and CPI(M) had boycotted the Governor’s address. They were protesting against his delay in clearing Bills. Around 21 Bills passed by the TN assembly are pending with the Governor.

“Quit Tamil Nadu” slogans were raised against governor Ravi in the assembly. Some ruling DMK MLAs also shouted, “don’t impose BJP, RSS ideology”.
