Gyanvapi Mosque Case Hearing in SC Tomorrow

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will take up the hearing of the Gyanvapi mosque case tomorrow. It may be noted that the earlier interim order of the SC to seal off the Gyanvapi mosque area, ends on November 12.

In May this year, the apex court had ordered to seal off the area when Hindu petitioners claimed that a ‘Shivling’ had been found inside this mosque complex adjacent to the Kashi Viswanath temple in Varanasi.

Gyanvapi mosque is opened up for Hindu devotees once a year. Five women petitioners have approached the Varanasi court seeking permission for daily prayers before idols on the walls of the mosque.

A Varanasi court had ordered a videographed survey of the mosque complex. As per the Hindus, a ‘Shivling’ was discovered during the survey. Lawyer of the Hindu petitioners has claimed that the ‘Shivling’ was found in the pond used for ablution rituals before namaaz. But the mosque committee had rejected the ‘Shivling’ theory saying the structure was the remnant of a fountain.

To avoid escalation of tension, the SC had ordered the sealing of the area.
