Judge Who Ordered Gyanvapi Survey Gets Threatening Calls from ‘International Numbers’

Lucknow: Additional sessions judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who ordered a videographic survey of Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque complex adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in 2022, has lodged a complaint with police about receiving hateful calls and “death threats from international numbers”.

In a letter sent to the Bareilly Superintendent of Police, Justice Diwakar alleged that he received a threatening call from an international number on April 15. A similar call with death threat was received by him after a few days.

Justice Diwakar was recently transferred to Bareilly. Earlier also he had complained about threatening calls received by him and his family.

Justice Diwakar started receiving threats soon after he ordered a video survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque. He had also ordered the sealing of the wuzu khana inside the mosque complex.

The Allahabad High Court had ordered Y-category security for him and his family following the threats, which was later reduced to X category.
