House Gutted by Lightning in Paradip; Woman, 2 Sons Seriously Injured

Bhubaneswar: Two rooms of a house were completely burnt down when lightning struck the thatched house at Barihadiha village in Kujanga block in Jagatsinghpur district in the wee hours of Saturday. Three persons, including a woman and her two sons, were seriously injured in the lightning strike and fire accident because of it. The lightning struck at around 2 am.

The local BDO and Tehsildar were informed and they assured that necessary assistance will be given to the affected families.

The injured were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Their condition is said to be critical. Several parts of Odisha experienced intense thunderstorms and lightning on Friday. The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar also experienced Nor’wester rain.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm activities in several parts of the state in the next three to four days.
