ICICI Loan Scam: Bombay HC Grants Interim Bail to Videocon Chairman Venugopal Dhoot

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court granted interim bail to Videocon group chairman Venugopal Dhoot on Friday. He was arrested by the CBI on December 26, 2022, in connection to the ICICI loan fraud case.

Dhoot’s bail plea had been rejected by a special CBI court on January 5. So, he approached the Bombay High Court for bail.

Dhoot and his lawyers had argued in court that his arrest on December 26, 2022, was illegal. So, he had urged an interim release.

He had approached the Bombay High Court as the co-accused in the CBI case that involves Chanda Kochhar, former MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, and her husband Deepak Kochhar.

The Kochar couple got bail earlier this month. They were arrested by the CBI on December 24. While granting them bail, the court had pointed out that their arrest was “not in conformity with provisions of law”.
