’83’ Cast Commemorates India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup Victory on 40th Anniversary

Mumbai: India’s momentous victory in the cricket World Cup, which took place on June 25, 1983, was commemorated by director Kabir Khan and the cast of the movie “83.” The film tells the story of India’s underdog triumph under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, as they defeated the formidable West Indies to claim the trophy. Kabir Khan took to Instagram to congratulate the real-life heroes and expressed his pride in the team’s historic win.

In the sports drama “83,” released in 2021, Ranveer Singh portrayed Kapil Dev, while Tahir Raj Bhasin and Saqib Saleem portrayed Sunil Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath, respectively, as part of the victorious Playing XI. Bhasin, in a letter shared on his official Instagram account, expressed his gratitude to the team, highlighting how India’s success in cricket tournaments since 1983 has validated Clive Lloyd’s prophetic words that Indian cricket has arrived and is here to stay.
