IT Raids on Minister & His Relatives in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Income Tax department raided the residence and offices of Telangana Labour Minister Malla Reddy and his relatives on Tuesday.

Teams of IT officials made simultaneous searches at the premises of the minister, his son Mahender Reddy, son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy and others in Hyderabad and Medchal Malkajgiri districts.

These raids are related to alleged tax evasion by the Malla Reddy Group. This group owns a number of educational institutions including a medical college, a dental college, a hospital and an engineering college.

Establishments of top officials of these institutions are also being searched. These IT raids coincide with the investigation by the Telangana Special Investigation Team (SIT) into MLAs’ poaching case.

Last month some alleged agents of the BJP including two godmen were nabbed from a farmhouse near Hyderabad when they were trying to lure four MLAs of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to jump over to BJP.

These TRS MLAs alleged that they were offered Rs 250 crore to switch over to the BJP. SIT has started investigation into the allegation and has also summoned BJP general secretary B. L. Santosh for questioning.
