Kedarnath Dham to Reopen for Devotees from April 25

The holy Kedarnath shrine in the upper Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand will reopen for devotees on April 25. This holy shrine remains closed for nearly six months during the winter season.

Every year during the winter months, when the Kedarnath temple remains closed, the idol of lord Shiva is brought down to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. The holy idol is worshipped there during winter.

According to the Badrinath-Kedarnath Mandir Samiti (BKTC), the gates of the revered Himalayan Shiva temple will be thrown open to devotees at 6.20 am on April 25.

The timing and date for the reopening of the temple gates were announced on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri during a ceremony organized at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath. Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, the other three four places of Char Dham yatra are scheduled to open on April 27 and April 22. The Char Dham temples, including Kedarnath, are closed every year in October-November due to extreme cold conditions.
