Man-Eater Panther Kills Priest in Udaipur; 7 Killed in Last 11 Days

Jaipur: A man-eater panther killed a priest at a village in Udaipur district of Rajasthan on Monday. According to reports, seven deaths due to panther attacks have occurred in the area in the last 11 days.

The latest victim, a priest, was reportedly dragged away by the panther in the early hours of Monday. Later his body was found in the jungle.

Using traps, forest officials have caught some panthers in the area during the past few days. But the deaths due to panther attacks have not stopped.

Due to the rising panther attacks, several schools had been ordered shut, people had been informed to not leave their houses in the evening and to only go out in groups.

Police, through social media, have also warned people about leaving their houses at night. Villagers have been asked to carry lathis or other items that can be used as weapons when venturing out.

It is not yet clear whether the same panther is involved in all the cases. It is reported that the nature of the attack has been similar in all cases.
