Man Walks 33 Km Carrying Wife’s Body on Shoulder in Andra Pradesh

Koraput: A man was seen carrying his wife’s body on the shoulder for about 33 km in Andhra Pradesh due to lack of money for a funeral van.

The man identified as Guru and his wife from Pottangi area in Koraput district were working as labourers in Visakhapatnam of the neighbouring state. The deceased was admitted to a private hospital at Sagarbalsa as her condition deteriorated, where she breathed her last, yesterday.

The deceased’s husband ran out of money due to his wife’s treatment. He requested the hospital authorities to make arrangements for transporting the body to his village for the last rites. But, the hospital authorities didn’t extend any help to him.

Not having any other option, Guru later decided to carry the body all the way to his village in Koraput. Reportedly, some passersby spotted Guru near Vijayanagar and informed the local police.

On being informed, Kiran Kumar, an ASI of Vijayanagar Rural Police, came to his aid. The cop arranged an ambulance, in which the body was carried to the village.

It is pertinent to note that, in 2016 Dana Majhi of Odisha’s Kalahandi carried his wife’s body on his shoulder for around 10 km in August of 2016 as he was not provided with a vehicle by the district headquarters hospital.
