Men Dress Up As Women To Celebrate This Kerala Festival: Know About The Unique Ritual

New Delhi: Chamayavilakku festival is celebrated in the state of Kerala and is rather unique because in this festival men dress up as women and worship the Goddess Bhagavathy. Find out about this unique festival.

During the festivities, thousands of men irrespective of their religious faith dress up as women and offer prayers to the Goddess Bhagavathy. The Kottankulangara Sree Devi temple is also unique because it is the only temple in Kerala that has no roof the sanctum sanctorum.

Indian Railways officer, Ananth Rupanagudi took to Twitter to share a photo of a man dressed as a woman during the Chamayavilakku festival. According to his post, the man won first prize for the make-up in the contest held at the temple.
