MP Govt Creates Separate Category for Transgenders for Govt Job Recruitment

Bhopal: In a major move to recognize transgenders in society, the Madhya Pradesh government created a separate category for their recruitment for government jobs, an official said on Saturday. This will enable the transgender community to apply for government jobs as members of the third gender.

Till now, during the recruitment process for government jobs in MP, there were only two gender categories, male and female. The MP state government issued an order on Friday under the Madhya Pradesh Transgender (Protection of Rights) Rules – 2021, creating a separate category for the transgender community in the direct recruitment in jobs.

Now the gender option of ‘transgender’ will be available in the application forms for government jobs. With this decision of the government, they now have the opportunity to be recruited in government jobs as transgenders.

Sanjana Singh became the first transgender to get a government job in Madhya Pradesh. Sanjana has been appointed as Private Secretary to the Director of the Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Department.

In November 2022, the Mumbai bench of the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) directed the state government to keep one post of a police sub-inspector (PSI) reserved for transgenders.

Joyita Mondal, who has become India’s first transgender Judge is in favour of reservation in government jobs for the transgender community.
