Mundali Toll Gate Sealed Indefinitely Following Attack on Tourists

Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack district administration sealed off the Mundali toll gate for an indefinite period following the attack on a group of tourists from Chhattisgarh by employees of the toll plaza.

According to police sources, four staffers of the toll gate were arrested in connection to this incident. They were booked under Section 147, 148, 341, 384, 323, 324, 325, 307, 427, 506, 354 (B) and 149 of the IPC, said an official of Athagarh police.

Tourists returning back to Chhattisgarh in two buses after spending around 17 days in Odisha were attacked by the Mundali toll plaza employees on May 23.

An argument between the tourists and employees of the toll gate over the collection of toll fees turned violent. The employees allegedly sought Rs 500 as toll fees from each of the two buses, while the tourists refused to pay anything more than Rs 200. At least 10 tourists, including two women, were injured when the employees of the toll gate attacked them with bamboo sticks and plastic pipes, sources said.
