Newark City Quashes Sister City Agreement with ‘Kailasa’ of Fugitive Godman Nithyananda

The city of Newark in the US state of New Jersey quashed the sister-city agreement with the so-called ‘United States of Kailasa’, a fictional country founded by Indian fugitive Nithyananda. Newark termed the circumstances that led to sister-city agreement with the fictional country as “regrettable”.

Press Secretary in the Department of Communications, City of Newark, Susan Garofalo has remarked that when they learned about the circumstances surrounding Kailasa, the City of Newark immediately took action to nullify the sister city agreement.

The sister-city agreement between Newark and ‘Kailasa’ was signed on January 12, 2023 at the City Hall in Newark. Self-proclaimed godman and fugitive Nithyananda faces several rape and sexual assault charges in India. As per reports, Newark shelved the sister city agreement with ‘Kailasa’ on january 18, 2023.
