Over 60,000 Stray Dog Bites Reported in Ahmedabad: Gujarat HC

Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court said people are unable to go for morning walks due to the menace of stray dogs while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on stray dog menace.

The court also stated that over 60,000 cases of stray dog bites have been reported in Ahmedabad alone. As per information, figures are very high in different cities of Gujarat.

The Gujarat High Court also opined that it was the primary responsibility of civic bodies to curb the menace of stray dogs on the streets. It was High Court’s reaction to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) statement in court that they were just a formal party in connection with this matter.

Reacting to it, the court said, “How can you be a formal party? It is the primary responsibility of the corporation to curb the menace of stray dogs.”

The next hearing of this case will be held on April 17. The AMC and the Gujarat government have been asked to reply on the next date of the case.
