Pakistan Attacks “Militant Targets” in Iran Escalating Tension in the Region

Escalating the tension following Iran’s missile and drone attack in Balochistan on Tuesday, Pakistan reportedly made an attack on alleged Balochistan militant targets within Iranian territory on Thursday. Iranian media reported that seven people including four children were killed in the attack.

According to the statement of the deputy governor-general of Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Pakistan, a series of explosions occurred in the southeastern Iranian city of Saravan on Thursday.

Pakistan on Wednesday condemned Iran for the missile and drone strike on its territory, which resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to three others in Balochistan.

The Pakistani government described the attack as an “unprovoked violation” of its sovereignty and airspace. Iran claimed that the strikes were aimed at Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni militant group which operates across the border in Pakistan.

Responding to the Iranian attack, Pakistan recalled its ambassador to Iran and barred the Iranian ambassador from returning to Pakistan.
