Pakistan Red-faced as Twitter ‘Relocates’ Gilgit-Baltistan in India

New Delhi: Twitter blocked access to the official account of the Pakistan government in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan.

Twitter has relocated the GB region as part of India. Now when users of the GB region turn on the location feature on the app to send tweets, they are marked as originating from Jammu and Kashmir in India.

Since March 2023, the Pakistan government’s official account is banned in India, so Twitter users in Gilgit-Baltistan cannot access the Pak government account there.

This interesting development has put the Pakistani government in an embarrassing situation.

In a bid to downplay the issue, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has come out with a statement claiming that “the matter has been thoroughly investigated and no such problem has been found, as being circulated in the media”.

But Twitter users in the GB area have thwarted the claim of the Pakistan government.
