Prez & PM Recall Sacrifices of All Those Martyred on Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has recalled the sacrifices of all those martyred on this day in Jallianwala Bagh.

In a tweet, the President said, “My humble tribute on behalf of the countrymen to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh! Recently I had the opportunity to visit the holy place and pay homage to those heroes. The people of India will always be grateful to those freedom fighters who sacrificed their everything.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to all those martyred on this day in Jallianwala Bagh.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “I recall the sacrifices of all those martyred on this day in Jallianwala Bagh. Their great sacrifice inspires us to work even harder to fulfill the dreams of our great freedom fighters  and build a strong and developed India.”

On April 13, 1919, a  British Colonel named Reginald Edward Harry Dyer ordered troops to surround a protest gathering of Indians in a compound called Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar and launched indiscriminate firing on the assembled men, women, and children who lacked the means to escape. Some of them jumped into a well located within the premises to escape the bullets. Over 1000 people lost their lives in this massacre.
