Prez & Vice Prez Extend Greetings for Mahavir Jayanti

Mahavir Jayanti is being celebrated across the country today. It is one of the most important religious festivals of the Jain community.

Also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, the day celebrates the birth of Lord Mahavir, the twenty-fourth and the last Tirthankara of the present Avasarpini.

President Droupadi Murmu extended greetings to the citizens of India on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

In a tweet, President Murmu wrote, “I heartily congratulate all the countrymen, especially the Jain community, on Mahavir Jayanti. Lord Mahavir showed the path to humanity by teaching truth, non-violence, and non-violence. All countrymen should practice non-violence, take a pledge to have compassion for animals, and protect nature.”

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar greeted people on the occasion. In his message, Mr. Dhankhar said tweeted, “Warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of #MahavirJayanti. Lord Mahavir’s teachings inspire us to lead a life of purity, kindness, and righteousness. Let us rededicate ourselves to Lord Mahavir’s ideals & work towards creating a world guided by compassion, kindness, and truth.”

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has also extended greetings to the people. In a message, Mr. Birla said, Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara, showed humanity the way to live with non-violence.

He tweeted, “On the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, the parliamentary constituency participated in the Janmakalyanak Mahotsav organized in Kota through a virtual medium. The ideas of non-violence, non-violence, compassion and forgiveness of Lord Mahavir Swami have become our way of life today. His teachings show the way to the welfare of all living beings through peace and co-operation.”
