Punjab Constable Killed, 5 Cops Injured in Firing by Nihang Sikhs at Gurudwara

Chandigarh: A Punjab home guards constable died and five other policemen were injured when a Nihang Sikh opened fire at a Gurudwara in Punjab’s Kapurthala on Thursday.

The deceased constable has been identified as Jaspal Singh posted at Sultanpur Lodhi police station. He was among the police personnel, who rushed to the Gurudwara following clashes between two Nihang groups over the control of the Gurudwara Akal Bunga in the wee hours of Thursday.

When the police team reached the spot, the Nihang group led by Mann Singh opened fire at the police, killing one constable and injuring five policemen.

Tension prevailed in the area ahead of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 27.
