Religious Rally Violence: Curfew Imposed in Sambalpur Town Until Further Notice

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur district administration has imposed a curfew until further notice in the town. The decision was taken following violence during a religious rally to mark Hanuman Jayanti.

Sambalpur Sub Collector ordered Curfew under Section 144(1) of the CrPc after receiving input on the current situation prevailing in the city.

No individual or group of people is allowed to come out of their houses during the curfew in the jurisdictional area of Town, Dhanupali, Khetrajpur, Ainthapali, Bareipali, and Sadar – police limits of Sambalpur with immediate effect until further orders, the official notice read.

“However, in emergency for procurement of any essential items may be made during the hours of 8.00 AM to 10.00 AM and 3.30 PM to 5.30 PM,” the official release further read.

“For any medical emergencies, a helpline is hereby declared. Citizens may reach out to the District Headquarters Hospital helpline No.7655800760. It is also to take note that, strict action as per law would be initiated against the violators of this aforementioned order,” the Sub Collector’s notice stated.
