New Delhi: After having a victorious win in the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa, team India reached home today.
After reaching India, Sachin Tendulkar along with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and other board office-bearers felicitated the Shafali Verma-led side that won the inaugural edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.
In the final all-women match, India defeated England in Potchefstroom by a margin of seven wickets to win the inaugural Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup after easily chasing down a modest total of 69. India earlier chose to bowl after winning the toss.
Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra each claimed two wickets, while Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Soman Yadav each claimed one to restrict England to a meagre total of 68. Only four batters for England were able to reach double figures, with Rayana Macdonald-Gay leading the way with 19 runs.

In a tweet, President Droupadi Murmu said, these talented young girls put up outstanding performances and these champions are an inspiration for the country’s youth, especially the girls. She said the historic win has made India proud.

In a tweet, Vice President Dhankhar said that the team’s scintillating performance augurs well for the future of cricket in India and will greatly encourage upcoming players. He extended his best wishes to the team for all their future endeavours.
