Terrorist Hideout Busted in J&K; Mortar Bomb Seized

Srinagar: A terrorist hideout was unearthed by security forces in the higher reaches of the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening. Assorted ammunition, including a mortar bomb, was seized from the spot.

This terrorist hideout was busted during a joint search operation by Army and police in Jamalwan forest in Ramban area.

The seized items included 52 mm mortar bomb, four detonators, cordtex wire (detonating cord), five magazines of AK assault rifles, two pistol magazines, LMG ammunition belt box, 292 rounds of assorted ammunition and several other related items.

But all of them were in rusted condition, which hinted that the hideout was an old one. Terrorist activity is on the decline in the Ramban region as only a few isolated incidents have taken place in the district over the last several years.

The last terrorist attack in this region was a grenade attack outside a police post in Gool in August last year.

Army, police and other security agencies are dominating the higher reaches by patrolling the areas as passes are opening up with the melting of snow.
