To Remove Governor From Chancellor Post, Kerala Govt Sends Ordinance to Raj Bhavan

Thiruvananthapuram: The ongoing tussle between the CPI (M) led leftist government in Kerala and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has become murkier. On Saturday, the CPI (M)-led state government in Kerala sent its ordinance to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor of universities in the state, to the Raj Bhavan for approval.

Now, this ordinance awaits the approval of the Governor. A few days back Kerala’s left-front government had taken a decision to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor of universities in the state. They had advocated the appointment of eminent academicians to the post of chancellor.

But the whole issue seems to be a political gimmick of Pinarayi Vijayan-headed government in Kerala. It is unlikely for the Governor to promulgate the ordinance.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties in Kerala, both Congress and BJP have opposed the ordinance by the present ordinance by the state government.  The opposition parties have alleged that the Kerala government wants to turn universities in Kerala into “Communist centers”.
