Transforming Nandankanan: Tunnel Aquarium, Water Bird Aviary & Much More on Anvil

Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) is all set for a major transformation with new world-class attractions like a tunnel aquarium, water bird aviary & several other facilities.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal for this major development in the NZP. These developmental projects at Nandankanan will be taken up in two phases.

The first phase will include the development of Nandankanan and its Botanical Garden in 2023-25. Night safari, safari complex, and other facilities will be added up at adjoining Choodanga forest in the second phase from 2025-28.

The major attractions of Nandankanan in the future would be a tunnel aquarium, water bird aviary, immersive enclosures, modern frontage, landscaping, and other advanced facilities. With them, Nandankanan will become a nature study hub for children.

Nandankanan Club, Zoo Ambassador, Citizen Science, Know Your Trees and other initiatives will a betaken up to create awareness among the children.

Now NZP has 4,012 animals and birds of 161 species. The zoo has 48 species of mammals, 77 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and six species of amphibians.
