Unable to Repay Debt, Five Members of a Family End Life

Five members of a family ended their lives by consuming poison in Nawada of Bihar. Another member of the family, who was also part of this suicide pact is fighting for her life in a hospital.

According to Bihar police sources, this ill-fated family was unable to repay a private loan. They were humiliated by the money lender. Unable to swallow this humiliation, on Wednesday night this family of six members decided to commit mass suicide by consuming poison.

The deceased are identified as Kedar Lal Gupta, his wife Anita Devi, daughters Guria Kumari (20), Sabnam Kumari (19) and son Prince Kumar (17). Their other daughter Sakshi Kumari could be rescued and saved in critical condition. She is under treatment in a hospital.

The head of the family Kedar Lal was a poor fruit vendor.  He was repaying Rs 1000 to the money lender every day. Because of it, he was not having money in hand to continue his fruit selling. As he was unable to repay the whole amount, the money lender was abusing the family, which they were unable to tolerate.

So, they consumed poison near a Mazar at night and fell unconscious. Locals found them and informed the police. The victims were admitted to a hospital where five of them were found to be dead.
