UP Cold Storage Collapse: CM Adityanath Sets up Probe Panel, Declares Rs 2 Lakh Each Compensation for 8 Dead

Lucknow: With the death toll in the cold storage roof collapse in Sambhal rising to eight, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased. He also formed a special committee to probe the reasons behind the mishap. He also announced financial support of Rs 50,000 for those critically injured, and free treatment for all those who sustained injuries in the incident.

Seventeen persons were rescued alive from the debris of the collapsed building by the personnel of NDRF and SDRF.

The roof of the potato cold storage chamber located on the Indira Nagar road under the Chandausi police station limits collapsed on Thursday night.

According to a government spokesperson in Lucknow, the UP CM constituted a probe committee led by the police commissioner and the DIG, Moradabad, to investigate the reasons behind the roof collapse.

According to police, the collapsed roof was built only three months ago. No necessary permission was taken from the administration for its construction. It is alleged that the quantity of potatoes stored at the cold storage was beyond its prescribed capacity.

According to police sources, an FIR has been registered against the owners of the cold storage and two others. As per the officials, the owners of the cold storage were identified as Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal. They have been booked under section 304.
