Violent Protests Rock France for 3rd Night over Death of Teenager in Police Firing

Violent unruly scenes griped several French cities as protesters erected barricades, lit fires, and shot fireworks at police as tension continued over the death of a 17-year-old in police firing.

This police shooting occurred in the northwestern Paris suburb of Nanterre, where a police officer shot the teen on Tuesday, who is identified by his first name, Nahel.

Paris saw garbage bins set ablaze at several places and some store windows smashed by the protestors. In Marseille, thousands of police personnel were deployed to quell the protests, which have gripped France for three nights in a row.

More than 400 people were arrested and around 200 police officers were injured. Schools, town halls, and police stations were targeted by protestors. Police used tear gas, water cannons and dispersion grenades against rioters.

The shooting of the teenager captured on video shocked the French national and sparked off a violent tussle between police and youngsters.
