Wanted Criminal Absconding for 2 years Nabbed

Cuttack: The prime accused of a murder accused who was absconding for over two years concealing his identity as a sadhu, was nabbed by the Cuttack police.

The accused was identified as Dipak Mallick.

“Pushpalata Behera, wife of Prakash Behera of Alishabazar under Lalbag police station in Odisha’s Cuttack district, lodged a complaint that one of her workers Mukesh arrived at her residence in an injured condition on September 2, 2020, and informed that some armed miscreants were chasing her husband to kill the latter. Pushpalata along with her relatives immediately set out in search of her husband Prakash Behera who was found profusely bleeding and found him near IPSAR College. They rushed him to the SBC Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said  Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra while addressing a press meet.

The cops registered a case under Section 302/32 IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act and arrested one Santanu in connection with the crime. However, Deepak was absconding.

“The police did not close this case and kept the search to find Dipak Mallick. Finally, his whereabouts were traced on Saturday and he was arrested. We are forwarding him to the court today,” the DCP added.

The accused was living in a place under Hindol police station limits in the Dhenkanal district concealing his identity as a sadhu to avoid arrest. He had taken up a pseudo name as Mahima Alekha.
