Warring Sudanese Groups Sign Agreement to Stop Harming Civilians

The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who are continuing a bloody conflict in the country, signed a preliminary agreement in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah promising to avoid harming civilians.

The warring parties agreed to allow all civilians to leave the besieged areas, the Al Arabiya news channel reported. The agreement welcomed the mediation efforts of other countries. It also called for a stop to all attacks that would harm civilians.

The two warring groups began their talks for negotiation in Jeddah on Saturday. The aim is to have a cease-fire to facilitate emergency humanitarian assistance to the conflict-ravaged country.

On Thursday, Saudi Arabia sent its fourth relief plane to Port Sudan, carrying more than 10 tons of food and medical materials.

Deadly armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF in the capital city of Khartoum and other areas are continuing since April 15. More than 550 people have died dead and 4,926 others were wounded in these armed clashes.
