Watch| Pakistanis Risk Lives to Get Wheat in the Food-Scarce Country

Pakistanis have started to risk their lives to get wheat and flour for their families. A 15 Kg bag of wheat flour costs Rs 2,050 in the heavy inflation-burdened Islamic nation.

In a video making rounds on social media, Pakistanis were seen to be risking their lives to get something for their families to eat by chasing a wheat truck on foot and bikes.

Professor Sajjad Raja, chairman of National Equality Party Jammu Kashmir Gilgit Baltistan and Ladakh (JKGBL) has shared the visual on Twitter. He wrote, “This is not a motorcycle rally, but people in Pakistan are chasing a truck loaded with flour, in the hope that they will buy just one packet of flour. Do we have any future in Pakistan? This video is just a glimpse of what is happening in Pakistan.”

The price of a 15kg flour bag has increased by Rs 300 in the past two weeks in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s inflation rate reached 24.5 per cent in December last year due to a massive spike in the prices of food products. The inflation rate of food materials in Pakistan has reached around 35 per cent.
