WHO Praises Odisha’s Malaria Eradication Model

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Shalini Pandit listed out the achievement of the state’s health department at a senior officers’ meet on Tuesday.

The Odisha model of combating malaria has been acknowledged globally by the World Health Organization, she said. This model resulted in the sharpest decline of this vector-borne disease. Odisha has made a quantum leap with a 39-point decline by reducing IMR which is the highest point decline in the country.

Added to it Odisha was in second position in the Country in 2021 for its efforts towards the elimination of Tuberculosis. The state has secured 1st rank among all the states in full immunization coverage with 90.5 per cent coverage achievement.

Odisha is the first state in the country to provide Air Health Service by flying specialists to rural interior areas of the state under ‘Mukhya Mantri Bayu Swasthya Seba’. Through this project the super specialist care is being provided to every remote corner of the state, she said.
