Wild Tusker Tramples Farmer to Death in Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: A wild elephant killed a farmer in Pujuguda village under the Narla forest range in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Friday night. Three others were seriously injured by the attacking elephant. The poor peasants faced the wrath of the angry pachyderm while they were guarding the harvested paddy at their threshing yard.

The deceased was identified as Khageswar Gouda. The injured included a six-year-old child. The injured were admitted to Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital in Bhawanipatna.

Police and forest officials rushed to the spot following the incident. Villagers have demanded proper compensation for the family of the farmer killed by the wild elephant. They also demanded some permanent solution to the continuing wild elephant menace in their area.
