Woman Found Hanging in In-Laws House; Murder for Dowry Suspected

Khordha: A woman was found hanging in her in-laws’ house at Begunia Nuasahi under Begunia police station limits in Odisha’s Khordha district.

The deceased was identified as Ritamandi Pradhan.

Brother of the deceased filed a complaint with the local police. According to the complaint, the in-laws asked Ritarani to bring Rs 2 lakh more as dowry from her parents. They tortured Ritarani both physically and mentally as she failed to meet their dowry demand.

According to sources, Ritamani married Krupasindhu Pradhan of Begunia Nuasahi in 2020. As demanded, Ritarani’s father had given Rs 50,000, gold ornaments and furniture to the bridegroom’s family.

A month back, Ritarani came back parents’ home as she could not bear the torture of her in-laws. On December 2, she returned to her in-laws’ house through a mediator.

Ritarani’s mother-in-law informed her parents that their daughter committed suicide by hanging at midnight.

However, Ritarani’s brother alleged that his sister was murdered and then hanged by her in-laws.

Acting on the complaint, the local police detained her husband and interrogated him in presence of a magistrate.
