Woman Sells Newborn Twins for Rs 1000 & Saree

Mayurbhanj: A woman reportedly sold her newborn twins for Rs 1000 and a saree in the Morada area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

According to sources, Manda Soren of Amananama village gave birth to a baby boy and a baby girl at the Mayurbhanj District Headquarters Hospital on December 8.

Laxmi Murmu, a local Anganwadi worker, informed Manda has sold the babies to two different persons.

“Manda had told me that she sold her baby boy to a person in Podaastia and her baby girl to a person in the Kathapala area. In return, she got Rs 1000 and a saree. Manda took the step as she was unable to raise the babies,” said Murmu.

Reportedly, her husband went missing a year back after developing some mental disorder.

A village meeting was held on Wednesday night, where the woman was asked to bring back her babies. Questions were also raised about details of the father of the newborns as her husband went missing a year back. Subsequently, no solution was derived.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached Manda’s house and adviced her to bring back her children.
